There's tons of great software available out there to pack your computer with. I know a lot of people think that the only way you can get good software is to pay for it.

This thread is about great freeware. Absolutely free, no strings attached software that really works. My first pick is:

IrfanView http://www.irfanview.com/

IrfanView is a image viewer and manipulator. With IrfanView you can view image slideshows, crop images, resize them, capture images, and convert images. IrfanView can even handle video files. Best of all it's tiny, less that a megabyte.

Burn4Free http://www.burn4free.com/

So, you inherited a CD or DVD burner and no burning software. Maybe you had to reinstall Windows and don't have your original CD burning software disk. Or maybe you were even using a trial version software that expired.

Fear not! Burn4Free is a robust CD and DVD burning solution at the right price.

GAIM http://gaim.sourceforge.net/

Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM (Oscar and TOC protocols), ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, and Zephyr networks.

Gaim users can log in to multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on AOL Instant Messenger, talking to a friend on Yahoo Messenger, and sitting in an IRC channel all at the same time.

Gaim supports many features of the various networks, such as file transfer (coming soon), away messages, typing notification, and MSN window closing notification. It also goes beyond that and provides many unique features. A few popular features are Buddy Pounces, which give the ability to notify you, send a message, play a sound, or run a program when a specific buddy goes away, signs online, or returns from idle; and plugins, consisting of text replacement, a buddy ticker, extended message notification, iconify on away, and more.

Winamp is an audio player that can handle audio CDs, MP3 audio files, and streaming audio broadcasts. It combines extensive functionality with an intuitive interface. TaxACT http://www.taxact.com/

April 15th is getting really close. Thinking about doing your taxes yourself this year but don't want to buy those high end programs like TurboTax? Try TaxACT. The standard version is free. It asks you simple questions and references your forms. When you're done you can print out replica tax forms filled in with your information and mail them in. If you pay for the deluxe version (it's really the same software but you pay for a key to unlock the deluxe features), you can do business taxes as well as personal taxes and you get a free e-file. You're not really losing out though, the cost of the software is tax deductible. :D

Windows CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

CleanUp! is a powerful and easy-to-use application that removes temporary files created while surfing the web, empties the Recycle Bin, deletes files from your temporary folders and much more. CleanUp! frees disk space and reduces the "clutter" on your computer helping it to run more efficiently. It also can be used as a way to protect your privacy on the Internet. You can even instruct CleanUp! to securely delete files making it impossible to retrieve their contents using lower-level disk tools.

This is a handy program for getting rid of junk. Turn down your speakers though. The sound of a toilet flushing scared the hell out of me.

Quick edit: If you by any chance you created a folder named Temp and put stuff in there you might want to take it out because it'll delete stuff there too.

FireFox http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

FireFox is a barebones web browser. It comes with all the basic stuff you need to surf the web. Because of it's basic design it's fast and stable. It's not susceptible to the same browser exploits and hijacks as Internet Explorer. The best thing about FireFox is customizing it. You can get new themes to change the look of your browser and download extensions that increase the functions your browser can perform (for example there's an extension that will allow you to translate all the text on a webpage among different languages). The best feature though is tabbed browsing which lets you open several browser windows within the same application. This feature is great for machines that don't have much memory. FireFox also has a very stable download manager.

Eudora http://www.eudora.com/

Eudora is an email client. Some of you are probably using webmail like Yahoo! or HoTMaiL. Those of you that got email addresses from your ISP might be using Outlook Express that came with Windows. Personally, I like Eudora. When you install Eudora you can use it in Light Mode (free with fewer features), Sponsored Mode (all features but with non-obtrusive ads) or Paid Mode (all the features, no ads).

Eudora has evolved a lot since when I first started using it. These days it supports loads of features like virus and junk filters, Moodwatch (lets you know that the email you sent or received contains "language"), a powerful address book, Eudora Sharing Protocol (Automatically sync and share files with family, friends and co-workers), importing (if you're already using a client and want to switch), etc. Sure there are other free email clients out there (ThunderBird and Pegasus spring to mind), but I like the extra features packaged into Eudora. :thumbsup2

PowerToys for Windows XP http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Yep, the enigmatic PowerToys are back....this time for Windows XP. PowerToys are applications that perform "advanced" functions but at the same time make it easy for you to uses. Here's the complete list of available PowerToys:

ClearType Tuner (New)

This PowerToy lets you use ClearType technology to make it easier to read text on your screen, and installs in the Control Panel for easy access.
HTML Slide Show Wizard (Updated)

This wizard helps you create an HTML slide show of your digital pictures, ready to place on your Web site.

Open Command Window Here

This PowerToy adds an "Open Command Window Here" context menu option on file system folders, giving you a quick way to open a command window (cmd.exe) pointing at the selected folder. (Oooh, I'm getting this one!)

Alt-Tab Replacement

With this PowerToy, in addition to seeing the icon of the application window you are switching to, you will also see a preview of the page. This helps particularly when multiple sessions of an application are open.

Tweak UI

This PowerToy gives you access to system settings that are not exposed in the Windows XP default user interface, including mouse settings, Explorer settings, taskbar settings, and more. (I recommend getting this one.)

Version 2.10 requires Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2003.

Power Calculator

With this PowerToy you can graph and evaluate functions as well as perform many different types of conversions. (Great for the students who don't want to spring for a graphing calculator)

Image Resizer

This PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a right-click. (Some of yall need this bad.)

CD Slide Show Generator

With this PowerToy you can view images burned to a CD as a slide show. The Generator works downlevel on Windows 9x machines as well.

Virtual Desktop Manager

Manage up to four desktops from the Windows taskbar with this PowerToy. (I've got to try this!)

Taskbar Magnifier

Use this PowerToy to magnify part of the screen from the taskbar.

Webcam Timershot

This PowerToy lets you take pictures at specified time intervals from a Webcam connected to your computer and save them to a location that you designate.

I've had this for awhile now, before it became a paid service about 3-4 months ago. Basically it's a more "direct" P2P program where you directly connect to someone you know, to access what's called their Library. It makes for MUCH faster uploads/downloads. Even the free version is still great, it just limits you to 2 linkups at a time.

I'm workin' on pickin' apart the source code to see my way around the paying part. :Peep:

Screen Print & Capture 32 http://www.provtech.co.uk/download/default.asp

ScreenPrint32 allows you to print and/or capture to disk or clipboard, the full desktop, active window, predefined area, or user selected area of the screen. Add user defined headers and footers with date and time stamps etc, resize the printed image, convert to greyscale or negative image, fade or resize the image to reduce toner/ink usage, print by default to any available printer. It can be set up to be completely transparent to the end user.

Capture a screen area and paste directly into your documents. Easily configured with user specific or global settings which are persistent after reboot.
Images may be saved to a user selected folder in either GIF, BMP, JPG or PNG formats with user configurable file naming.

Just so you know, you can easily capture any screen using the Print Screen button, but if you want software to make the process less intensive this is it.

Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware http://www.download.com/Microsoft-Windows-AntiSpyware/3000-8022_4-10353597.html?tag=txt

I normally don't recommend Microsoft software, but I figure if Download.com can give it a 5 rating (their highest) it might be worth passing on.

Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) is a security technology that helps protect Windows users from spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Known spyware on your PC can be detected and removed. This helps reduce negative effects caused by spyware including slow PC performance, annoying pop-up ads, unwanted changes to Internet settings, and unauthorized use of your private information. Continuous protection improves Internet browsing safety by guarding over 50 ways spyware can enter your PC.

P.S. I posted the Download.com link because Microsoft has a nosy little Validation step before you download from them. It's not necessary to validate, but why take chances. :D

*Update*
I just tried this out on a problematic computer here in the office and I must say I'm officially impressed. This software not only found stuff that SpyBots and Ad-aware missed but it also preserved the browser settings to block any additional hijacks. Also, it actively scans in real time. Looks like Microsoft finally has a winner. :thumbsup2

VSO DivXtoDVD Converter http://www.vso-software.fr/divxtodvd/divxtodvd.htm

Here's one I just stumbled on and I'm sure I'll find handy. DivxToDVD converts your movie files from a wide range of formats (AVI, XVID, MPEG, and DIVX) to compliant DVD structures (VOB and IFO). You can then burn them with CopyToDVD and watch the movie via a DVD Player. (CopyToDVD isn't free, but I don't need it. All you need to do is create a new project and create two folders: AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. You can put all the files in the VIDEO_TS to create your DVD)

Mihov's Freeware http://www.mihov.com/eng/

Mihov is a busy guy. He has a whole batch of cool freeware on his site. Now I originally went to his site to see if the Gallery Creator was still there. It's a cool utility that takes a batch of web images and creates an HTML photo gallery from them. Now I get here and find out he has a bunch of other freeware on his site. You may not find most of it useful but here are some examples of what he's got:

Picture Downloader: Tool that lets you download all the images from a website in one shot.

DiskFree: Simple utility that shows the amount of free space on your hard disks.

Mail Sender: This program was created to send the same e-mail message to more people - but to them it looks like they are the only recipient. (This could actually be pretty handy because even Blind CCs in most email software can't do this.)

Program #14: This simple program adds the same text to each line of a text file

Of course my favorite:

Gallery Creator: The program makes it easy to show your pictures to the rest of the world. It creates an image gallery with a link to the previous image, the next image, and to the index file. When you're done formatting the pages, you can preview the gallery and then the program will upload all the files to your web page. It's that easy!

If you like to multitask like I do, then it might be a good idea to install a memory optimizer. Advanced tray support, automatic memory monitoring and optimization, metric system monitors, and real-time memory information are just a few of the features that make this program attractive and useful. FreeRAM XP Pro's AutoFree feature intelligently scales how much RAM is freed with your current system status, thus optimizing RAM without slowing down your computer. You can use it to create techno loops and jungle patterns, and record your actions to a high-quality, noise-free WAV or RAW file for use with your sampler or sequencer. It includes 23 separate drum patches and six complete loops, plus a feature to implement banks with six samples of your own, making a total of 35 samples that can be used at one time. HammerHead also features adjustments for tempo, shuffle, feedback, and distortion, as well as the ability to export drum loops by measure or by entire session.

Zoom Player Standard http://www.download.com/Zoom-Player-Standard/3000-2139_4-10345000.html?tag=lst-0-16

Tired of Windows Media Player draining your resources? Or maybe you're tired of hearing you don't have the right codec to play a video file. Try Zoom Player.

If you're looking for a flexible, feature-intensive media player, try Zoom Player Standard. The lightweight program works with most Windows operating systems. It will not take over your system and has a configurable onscreen display. The program is written with extensive playlist capabilities, and even supports Unicode filenames. The Media playback mode prevents filter conflicts on all system setups, even those running on a bad install. Zoom Player is the ultimate in freeware. The publisher even provides great support via a linked Web site. The only feature missing is DVD support, which is available in Zoom Player Professional. The program suits those looking for an efficient, stable media player.

DVD Shrink http://www.dvdshrink.org/where.html

DVD Shrink is a free solution to backing up your DVDs. The problem with commercial DVDs is that they're way to big to burn on 4.3 gig blank DVDs you buy at the store. This program compresses the DVD so that you can burn it on 4.3 gig blank DVDs. Best of all you can choose to have it back up as an ISO image so you only have to worry about one file. ISO images can be easily burned with software like Nero Burning Rom or Roxio.

Sure Delete http://www.wizard-industries.com/sdel.html

Did you know that when you delete a file it's not really gone? The process of deletion is a bit complicated to explain but know that even deleted files can be retrieved. In fact I even mentioned a program in this thread that will let you retrieve deleted files.
Sure Delete offers two utilities that work to permanently delete data from a hard drive. When you need to shred sensitive information, Sure Delete ensures that it's done right. Rather than simply deleting file references on your computer, the program actually destroys the data itself. Sure Delete goes much further than the Windows Recycle Bin, and ultimately makes the data irretrievable.

Instant Messengers: I'm surprised I haven't touched on instant messengers in this thread yet. Here are the top three.

Yahoo! Instant Messenger http://messenger.yahoo.com/
My personal favorite, Yahoo! IM is very feature rich. So much so that some offices use Yahoo! IM to keep in touch. Two of the best features offered by Yahoo! IM is a voice chat mode that lets you use your IM like a phone and LAUNCHcast to access free streaming music and even create your own radio station based on the artists you like. Did I mention the smileys on Yahoo! are the best in the business? :D

AOL Instant Messenger http://www.aim.com/

America Online's answer to the IM movement. AOL instant Messenger (AIM) service is a free online service that lets you communicate with family, friends and co-workers in real time. Using the AIM Buddy List® feature you can see when your buddies are online and available to instant message.

The newest version of AIM lets you to take instant messaging to the next level! With Video IM, Screen Name Linking, AIM Games and Mobile IM, instant messaging has become more fun than ever!

MSN Messenger http://messenger.msn.com/

With MSN Messenger you can chat online via text, voice or even video conversation - in real time - with your friends, family or colleagues. MSN supports some of the cooler features that Yahoo! has like easy webcam integration, web searches, games, etc. It's also tightly integrated with MSN the same way that Yahoo! Messenger is with Yahoo! in that it allows you access to different web features such as email and message boards.

The Gimp http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

Ok, I've finally had a chance to try this out so I'm giving it it's own post.
WinGIMP is a Windows-port of the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

My first impression is the program's kinda buggy. First when I tried to run it it froze. Once I restarted though it started ok. Another problem is the interface can be confusing. I'd advise you to read up on this one. For some strange reason I couldn't open jpg images either. Like I said, it's kinda buggy. Once you get past that though it has essentially the same options that Photoshop with all the tools, plugins and even layers. I'd have to give this one a 7 out of 10 for being so buggy. It is however free and that's a helluva lot cheaper than Photoshop. :D

You will need to download both GTK+ Runtime Environment and The Gimp installers. Install GTK+ before installing The Gimp.

****Update**** April 26, 2005

I found a fix for the problem opening JPG files. Turns out this is a known issue in the latest release of GIMP. If anyone out there is having similar problems, download libexif-0.6.11.zip (http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/libexif-0.6.11.zip) and extract the files into the GIMP directory under Program Files. GIMP works perfectly now. :thumbsup2

Skype http://skype.com/

Software Publisher's Description:

Skype is free and simple software that enables you to make free calls anywhere in the world in only minutes. Skype uses innovative P2P (peer-to-peer) technology to connect you with other users. It is quick and easy to install and offers several features, including SkypeOut calling from Skype to regular and mobile phones worldwide, free conference calling, and secure file transferring. Skype calls have better sound quality than your regular phone and are highly secure, with end-to-end encryption.

Download.com Review:

Getting in touch with friends and family is easy with this Internet telephone software, but the functionality is conditional. Skype offers a graphically pleasing interface that's much like a chat program. To make calls, you'll need to create a contact list of friends and family or use the phone-like interface to dial people directly. You also can access a pull-down menu for painless conference calls of up to four people. To make free calls, both parties will need to have the Skype software installed. To call regular phones, you'll need to sign up for a plan with SkypeOut, the developer's paid service that offers cheap by-the-minute calling. We like the intuitive chat-like interface of Skype and we were surprised at the excellent sound quality, even with regular desktop speakers. Similar to a chat client, you can set your availability status, but we also would like to see a missed call indicator or, better yet, some form of voice mail. Overall, we think Skype is a strong contender in the Internet Telephony category, and anyone who's interested in talking for free should give it a try. For international callers who have computers, this program is a no-brainer solution for long-distance bills.

If you're an Internet Explorer purist then you need this. IE basically sucks when it comes to detecting spoof websites. PhishGuard is an easy to install and use FREE service that will warn you if you're wandering onto a spoofed site that might be phishing for your information.

For those of you who don't know, a Phishing attack uses fraudulent websites and emails that mimic well-known organizations in order to trick unsuspecting Internet users. A simple login or account number entry screen becomes a sophisticated trap. By assuming you are dealing with a trusted party, you can reveal financial information including credit card numbers, bank accounts, passwords, and social security numbers to the "bad guys". This type of attack is very difficult for the typical person to detect, as the scammer’s emails and websites mimic the exact style and graphics of the spoofed company, and appear genuine. Sensitive financial information disclosed to scammers is used to make fraudulent financial transactions and to enable long-term identity theft.

Process Explorer http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx

Way better than Windows Task Manager. Ever wondered which program has a particular file or directory open? Now you can find out. Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded.

The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you’ll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you’ll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded.

The unique capabilities of Process Explorer make it useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks, and provide insight into the way Windows and applications work.

Boes this software make the logo look transparent? Like it's in the background of the picture.

No, it doesn't. What this software does is let you apply the a watermark image (any image file) to as many pictures as you choose and batch process them all. There's no option for a transparent image.

Try this one instead (I think this one works much better and it's a much smaller download):

Picture Shark http://www.picture-shark.com/

Picture-shark is the first choice for people who want to "stamp" visible logos or text on their image files.

Here are some of picture-shark's features:

* With its wizard like interface it is super easy to use
* Create real watermarks
* Choose transparent color, opacity, position and much more
* Use the "feather"-feature to make the edges between the stamp and the picture smarter as with any other tool, just by one mouse-click
* Very fast (processing hundreds of pictures each minute)
* Support for different output formats and quality settings
* WYSIWYG preview-mode for all settings
* Support for preserving jpeg-headers
* copy&paste between other applications and picture-shark

No, it doesn't. What this software does is let you apply the a watermark image (any image file) to as many pictures as you choose and batch process them all. There's no option for a transparent image.

Try this one instead (I think this one works much better and it's a much smaller download):

Picture Shark http://www.watermark.studigotchi.com/download.htm

Picture-shark is the first choice for people who want to "stamp" visible logos or text on their image files.

Here are some of picture-shark's features:

* With its wizard like interface it is super easy to use
* Create real watermarks
* Support for preserving jpeg-headers
* copy&paste between other applications and picture-shark

Your fast...lol
thanks i will check it out now

3D Canvas http://www.amabilis.com/downloads.htm

This real-time, 3D-modeling and -animation tool offers everything you need to create complex models using either premade 3D primitives or object-building tools. The tutorials and example drawings make this program an excellent introduction to 3D modeling and animation. Although the complex array of features is what sets 3D Canvas apart, it may take some time to learn the tools' functionality when everything is new to you. Luckily, the tutorials and help files are excellent. Starting a model is surprisingly easy. Simply drag one of the predefined primitives into the work space and begin by placing your object in a scene. You can paint 3D objects and animate their shapes and positions in real time, or record to an AVI video file for distributing your creation. The 3D Canvas interface is extremely intuitive, with objects and palettes conveniently accessible from clearly visible tabs and panels. This freeware version of 3D Canvas is an excellent program with a multitude of varied features and plenty of things to play with.

All-in-One Secretmaker http://www.secretmaker.com/downloads/default.html

All-in-One Secretmaker combines several tools: a spam fighter, a pop-up blocker, a intruder blocker, a banner blocker, a movie blocker, a privacy protector, history cleaners, a worm hunter and a cookie eraser. Spam Fighter recognizes spam and works with any POP3 e-mail client; spam is rated, and the fully automated white list keeps preferred contacts up-to-date. The banner blocker reduces advertising banners, the movie blocker blocks Flash ads, besides uncountable adware sources locked out, and improves surfing speeds. Intruder blocker protects from Spyware, Trackware and Viruses. The pop-up blocker stops unwanted pop-ups, and the privacy protector hides your identity while you surf. The cookie eraser circumvents profiling. Various white lists allow user-specific optimizations. The history cleaner clears needless files, logs, and tracks. All-in-One Secretmaker is suitable for novices, as well as for professionals.

Peer2Mail http://www.peer2mail.com/

Peer2Mail is the first software that lets you store and share files on any web-mail account. If you have a web mail account with large storage space, you can use P2M to store files on it. Web-mail providers such as Gmail (Google Mail), Walla!, Yahoo and more, provide storage space that ranges from 100MB to 3GB.

P2M splits the file you want to share/store zips and encrypts it. P2M then sends the file segments one by one to your account. Once P2M uploaded all file segments, you can download them and use P2M to merge the segments back to the original file.

It's really easy to use and most of the options fill in for you automatically. When it finishes the process (it took me roughly 6 hours to convert a 1 hour and 45 minute AVI to DVD), it creates an image file that you can burn with most burning software.

My only issue with the software is a bug that doesn't seem to close properly near the beginning of the process. Other than that the program ran smoothly. Also, make sure the output directory is different from the source directory. That was an issue in previous versions but they might have corrected it in this one.

You know the best stuff for video editing is gonna cost you money. Here's a simple video editor (the most recent update supports importing DV movies):

VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit Windows platforms (95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP). It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.

The program supports the most popular image formats, from ISO and CUE to CloneCD and Nero, and its interface is very clear. Just click the icon in the system tray to configure settings or quickly mount a virtual disk. Daemon Tools consumes very few system resources, so you don't have to worry about it slowing down your machine. The only caveat is it can't create image files, so you'll need a third-party utility for that. Nevertheless, if you're constantly swapping disks to run applications, Daemon Tools provides a simple (and free) way to simplify your workflow.

NotesHolder Lite http://notes.aklabs.com/

You like using stickies to remind you of things. Wish you had something like that for your computer? Try Notesholder Lite.

NotesHolder lets you quickly type in any piece of information so that you can easily find it when you need, read it or print it out for your convenience. This is the most effective way to store all your notes without cluttering up your desk with PostIt and sticky notes.

Unlike the other similar applications, NotesHolder is very thrifty with your screen space. You can even turn off NotesHolder icon in the system tray. But if you move your mouse cursor to the edge of the screen, the list of the notes sorted by the time of creation and divided into categories will pop up. Click once to create a new note or to edit an existing one. Click once more to print the note.

SDP Multimedia http://sdp.ppona.com/

SDP Multimedia is a MMS streaming receiver for windows media streaming. With SDP Multimedia, not only can you view the streaming media in preview mode, SDP receiver downloads (or copies) the stream to your hard disk. This cannot be achieved with a standard Windows Media player.

SDP can now download the following protocols, not just mms:
Http v1.0 streaming protocol, Http progressive (simple http download) and of course: mms, mmst and mmsu over both TCP and UDP transport protocols.

***HBomb Note***
I tried a whole bunch of video streaming capture software but this one beat them all. It was real easy to use and didn't have any bugs like the others did. There are more programs that do this, but this is the one I recommend.

Nope, but I'll add it to the list. First, make sure you're definintely using a DVD drive. Look right at the face of the CD tray and make sure the DVD logo is there. I can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't automatically detect the DVD unless it was a really bad bootleg.

I played with this for a while. It's decent as TV Tuner viewer, but stinks in a lot of other areas. Maybe it was just my tuner, but I couldn't change any of the brightness, contrast, tint, etc. controls. I know I have these options available to be in WinDVR (what I normally use) and they work fine there. I gave it a by on that and moved on to scheduled recordings. Here it performed horribly. I won't comment as to how bad the recorded movie was. Hopefully they do some more work on this program and produce a free version out of beta. If you're looking for a full featured DVR, this one isn't for you.

iDump http://www.codershole.com/idump.php?id=0fb9pbglvo2n8001ijpongfsn2

This program will allow you transfer your songs off your iPod to a PC, iDump does come wrapped in installer but you can simply drop the .exe in the root directory on your iPod and run it from there.

Connect you iPod and run iDump and you'll have access to all your songs, select the songs you want to transfer then pick a destination directory and how you would like your songs to be named. And then sit back and transfer all the selected songs to the PC.
