A 63-year-old Long Island man became that island’s first traffic fatality of the year on Saturday.
Benedict Turnquest of Lower Deadman’s Cay was a passenger in a Nissan Sunny # 263 driven by Noel Turnquest, when the car skidded off the road and smashed into a utility pole while traveling north on Queen’s Highway.

According to Supt Hulan Hanna, Police Press Officer, Turnquest succumbed to injuries at the scene of the accident.

Police are investigating the matter. Supt Hanna also reported that a 23-year-old New Providence woman was stabbed in the face and body by “a man known to her” around 11:07 p.m. Saturday,.

Tina Marie Goodman is listed in stable condition at the Princess Margaret Hospital, as police follow significant leads into the matter, Supt Hanna said.
The police have also launched an investigation into a Saturday shooting which left a 20-year-old man hospitalized.

According to Supt Hanna, Edward Newbold, an employee of One Stop Auto located on East Street South, near the Esso service station, was at work when 2 men entered the establishment and started a conversation with him.

After an exchange of words, Hanna said, one of the men, who wore orange shirt, produced a handgun and shot Newbold, a Davis street resident, in the right side.
He was taken to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition at the Princess Margaret Hospital.
Hanna made an appeal to the public for any information concerning the matter.

The police also reported a stabbing incident on Old Trail Road on Saturday around 2:07 p.m..
The victim, Keno Johnson of Redland Acres, reported that while at a relative’s house, a man known to him attacked him, stabbing him with a knife.

Johnson sustained injuries to the lower back.
He is presently detained at the Princess Margaret Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
