St. George's, Grenada, CANA - The English-speaking Caribbean countries are developing an HIV/AIDS programme aimed at cutting the annual rate of mother-to-child transmissions by more than half by 2003. Health officials from the region were planning the programme during a special two-day workshop which ended in Grenada Thursday night. They are getting support from the Trinidad and Tobago-based Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (CAREC). "We have a thousand children on a yearly basis who are infected by HIV and by reducing it by 50 per cent at least we would save a life of five hundred. That is the minimum which we can do," head of the programme for sexually transmitted diseases, Dr. Bilali Camara said.
