Hey Gillion, I finally got my Ubuntu CDs (version 5.10). They sent me 5 copies. I'm currently posting this from Linux. So far it's pretty nice. I haven't had to do much work to install the devices and it detected most everything right off the bat. The GRUB bootloader looks like it's not going to give me much trouble when I decide to go back to Windows (haven't tried it yet). I'm installing updates and messing around with it for a second. Just thought you'd like to know since you're the Linux guru around here. :thumbsup

I'm looking for get off the Redhat/Fedora bandwagon. A bit scared been using
Redhat since 5.2 and Fedora since it came out. I messed up windows running
a registry cleaner *sigh* So i'm reinstalling next thursday or so going for dual
boot. Looking at other pretty desktop options. I'll give a peep at Ubuntu.

I agree. The package I got included both the installation and the live cd. I was only after I tried it out that I decided to go for the install.
I forgot the link to order the CDs (it's free), but if Gillion gets in here any time soon he can share it again.

I heard it had insane hardware support. How is it running so far? does the package management system have a debian feel to it still? I should download the dvd.

I'm afraid I can't comment because I haven't used a debian system before. I'm almost utterly a Linux newbie.
I have to admit though it picked up on ever piece of hardware I have installed. Even the HP printer which is notorious for software screwups.

Yeh i saw that. I wonder if i'm ready for debian, have only used RH/Fedora.
Time for new experiences i guess. I'll have to look at the wireless support
also, because i'm on a laptop.

Seems like i might be able to get wireless going. I have a built in Broadcom
wireless adapter and the ubuntu forums indicate that it will work. Downloading
the x86 and 64bit images now.

Man and not too long ago wireless support for linux was utter shit. Burn in hell Prism-family chipsets. I cant wait until summer hits.

Tested the AMD64 Live cd before work tonight here are some screenshots.
The glidepad is very sensitive. Everything else works, but i haven't done the
wireless configuration yet. Will do that after the HDD install.

From what I hear it's difficult as hell to get working. I only know because I spent some time trying to get my K-World TV tuner card working. To no avail I might add.

I used ubuntu before but found it not worth the hassle for my everyday machine, for an htpc that's a different story as I'm considering using a cf card to boot from.
