I got hooked on this snack in Trinidad, itīs like a spinach Bahje, called Sahina if I remember right, some simply call it Spinach burger.
Now if any one knows what spices used in the batter?:p

I havent had one since ī98, It can be found all over the south Trinidad, but I remember having one by Piarco too.
It definatly has an Indian taste to it.

the main ingredients in sahiena are as follows:

2 cup soaked and ground split peas
1 ripe lime
2 cloves garlic
1 grated onion
1 tsp saffron
2 tbsp flour
6 dasheen leaves
1 head ground chives
2 tsp salt
pepper to taste

the dasheen leaves are steamed with lime juice. then mix all the ingredients together.
on a pastry board arrange the leaves to form an overlapping rectangle, spread the peas mixture on it
roll up and tie with a string. then steam for 15 min in a steamer
cool and cut into 1 inch slices, coat with seasoned flour and fry i hot oil until light brown.
drain. serve hot.
