The group’s 2000 album, Higher Heights, was chosen as the best soca album, while lead singer Alison Hinds showed that she was still the queen of Caribbean soca by winning in the Soca Female Artiste category.
Perhaps the most satisfying award which the band won was that of “Soca Group of the Year”.
The band’s musical director, Terry Arthur, was recognised for his work on Rupee’s Jump. He, along with Peter Coppin, was named “Soca Producer of the Year” for their joint effort on the song.
Arthur stated that he was delighted the band’s work had again been acknowledged and said that they were trying to push soca music into new markets.
Square One will be giving a performance at the Boatyard on April 27 during which they will showcase some of the material from a special edition album entitled, The Missing Files. This album is slated to be released next month.
